See the Play Equipment
Play Equipment selection was made based on feedback from the public meeting in September 2005. The equipment manufacturer, Kompan, has exciting and innovative designs that will appeal to the two target age groups: children between the ages of 2-5 and 5-12. View the two main play structures that will be installed at Bayview-Kinnear Park here.
PAST EVENTS
Slide-a-Thon
Sept. 30, 2006: Sliders of all ages came out to raise money to save our slides. Some had flat pledges and others raised a specified dollar amount for each time they went down the slides. Over 30 sliders participated and some took 400 trips down the hill. We raised $7,000!! The money will be used to help bring the two long slides up to code.
Seattle Night Out
August 1, 2006: Friends of the Park turned out for a great Summer Dessert
Potluck. Thanks everyone! Public Meeting on Basketball Enhancement
May 16, 2006: Neighbors met to discuss the possibility of enhancing
basketball play at the park. The basketball enhancement entailed: 1)
moving the area slightly northwest of the current location, 2) increasing
the size to allow space for 3-point shots, and 3) providing a new hoop,
backboard, and net.
Neighbors agreed to keep the current size and location of the basketball
area. Funding from the Sonics-Storm Foundation may be available to
resurface and level the current hard surface and to replace the hoop,
backboard, and net. 2nd Annual Easter Egg Hunt
April 15, 2006: Great turnout this year for our egg hunt. We
had over 600 eggs in hiding all over the hillside, playfield, and playground
area. Starbucks provided coffee.
Chopstix Fundraiser
Jan. 22, 2006: Our fundraiser party at Chopstix was a huge success!
Great raffle and auction items, special solo singing performances, good eats, fun times, amazing dueling keyboards, and fancy dancing moves. There was even a signature BK
martini drink. It was green!
We raised over $11,000!!!! Our most successful fundraiser!
Thank you Andrea Nakata, all the staff and players at Chopstix, and everyone who contributed and joined the festivities!
Fourth Community Design Meeting
September 27, 2005: Community members gathered together once again to review a myriad of play equipment, picnic tables, and bench options, as well as get a first look at the Autocad renderings of the new park. Read about the outcome of the meeting.
Wine Raffle
September 27, 2005: The winners are Gena and Dave Cook! Congratulations! Winners of our “mini wine cellar” are Lisa Gleason and Paul Vassallo! The wine raffle was a huge success. Thanks to all who contributed wine, sold raffle tickets, and purchased tickets for the park project. With the help of so many we were able to put $3500 towards our park project with this one fundraising event! Thank you!
Tile Painting Party
August 27th, 2005: Community families made their mark in the form of 107 porcelain tiles for the new park walls. It's not too late to paint yours! Stop by Color Me Mine in Queen Anne anytime and reference project name: Bayview-Kinnear OR contact Amy Neuburger at amy.neuburger@planet-is.com with questions.
Rummage Sale
July 23rd, 2005: Neighbors emptied out garages, basements, and attics for treasures to support our project! Sales exceeded expectations and brought us closer to our goal.
Bayview Manor Senior Health Fair
May 25th, 2005: This was a great opportunity to meet with seniors in the community and discuss our park renovation plans. Residents will be available to help with fundraising events and work at the park.
Earth Day Clean Up
April 23rd, 2005: We had a great turnout! This was a collaborative event with Starbucks. Not only did Starbucks donate coffee for our hard workers, but they also helped us raise money for the project. For every volunteer hour, Starbucks donated $10.
1st Annual Easter Egg Hunt
March 26th, 2005: Rain, not shine, was coming down hard on our eager egg hunt enthusiasts. Once again, Starbucks donated coffee for those soggy parents watching their kids comb the hillside, playfield, and playground area at the park.

Thanks to Seattle's Department of Neighborhoods (DON), we are getting closer and closer to our fundraising goal. We recently received a $15,000 matching grant to help flesh out the details of the park design. At the end of the six month period, from July-December 2005, we will have specific playground equipment selected and detailed construction documents developed.
We have received from the Seattle's Department of Neighborhoods (DON) a large matching grant for $99,637. This grant is a major accomplishment and makes up more than a third of our total project cost. Thank you for your support Department of Neighborhoods!
Please view our HOW TO HELP page for information on volunteering, making a financial pledge and our EBAY auctions.
We have heard your ideas and concerns at four community design meetings. Turnout was great! At the 2nd meeting, we reviewed three concept designs. In the end, we actually took our favorite components of each design and came up with a fourth design. Our preliminary final design was presented at the February 15th meeting. Thanks to everyone who attended. Your support and commitment will help make this park truly a neighborhood park we can all enjoy together.
Common concerns and suggestions included:
- ADA accessibility
- Visibility between structures and from the street,
- Keeping the baseball backstop and basketball court
- Increasing the number of trash receptacles
